I have been wodering something for a while, but waited till now to ask...
I keep hearing about the FIPK open element air cleaner setup some foks have
been running...
I have always been under the impression that for best performance, one would
want lots of COLD air......If the element is open to the engine bay, you
would just be sucking in hot air (plus wahatever cold air leaked into the
bay from surrounding cavities...
In the late 60's early 70's , muscle cars had "cowl induction" and "ram air"
to name a couple, which involved porting the airbox to the outside of the
engine bay by scoops or ductwork....
I think the FIPK looks great!! But is it really gaing a whole lot??? I tried
a similar setup on another vehcile of mine and found not much performance
improvment, although a neat sound and cool looks...
]
I have tried the tips I found in a "Mopar Truck" magazine.....Removed the
air baffle in the grille and got the K&N.......This really seems to have
helped....I am also considering adding a second duct to the airbox as shown
in the article....
ANy feedback??? I DO like the looks of the FIPK, but just aint sure its
actualy a performance benefit.....
