I'm hoping that MP Part P5249517 "5.9 V8, 1993 Truck and B-Van" SBEC
will plug into my truck's wiring harness and everything will be kosher.

A 1996-model 5.9 Magnum (360 cid) block runs about $2700 fresh from the
factory (vs. $2500 for a 318). I don't think I can get a rebuild that
would offer similar reliability for much less. There isn't a whole lot
of difference in price year-to-year, so if anyone has a lead on which
model Rams have hotter cams, I'd appreciate knowing.

Here's a basic question: I was under the impression that the roller cam
was new in the 1996 model engines; other people have told me the Magnum
engines all have roller followers. What's the true story?

Obviously, I haven't opened my engine yet. It seems to be perfectly happy
at 125K miles, though it sips a quart of Mobil 1 every 2000 miles.
