while since I saw it and I was starting to wonder.
Here is what was done, per the paperwork:
1) The oil leak was resolved by replacing the intake manifold
gasket, which also required the usual squirt of sealant, as well as a
new distributor shaft O-ring, and anti freeze.
2) Removed and reinstalled 4 of the body mounts as they believe my
loud thump when turning my have been caused by the guys who installed my
nerf bars. This I will have to drive a while to see if it is resolved.
3) Front end was out of alignment which was the cause of the uneven
wear on the front drivers side tire. I think they were right on this one
as the truck does not slow down as quickly as it used to when I lift my
foot from the gas peddle. Hard to say though, it did not pull before I
took it to them, and still does not. Only miles will be able to show for
sure.
And lastly.....the Intermediate Shaft.
4) The intermediate shaft was replaced on TSB# 19-12-97 with part
number 55351171AA Coupling. Other parts used were 6504926AA Screw-Hex
Flange Head, 2 required and 6101510 bolt, 1 required. I can still feel a
very slight amount of the same tap in the steering wheel, but it is so
slight that I doubt I would feel it at all if I was not looking for it
and knew what it felt like. The u-joint at the top of the shaft is much
larger then the one on the original shaft and the sliding joint portion
of the shaft is also larger then the original. This will also take a few
miles to be sure about, but I have a warm and fuzzy feeling about it
already.
Of course ALL of this was covered under warrantee and did not cost
me a penny. I am very happy to have my truck back as I have been driving
my Trans Am all week, and on Tuesday, the heater coil sprung a leak. Now
that I have my primary wheels back, I can pull the dash out and shampoo
the carpet and replace the heater core. That will be fun. Oh well, cars
were not been good to me in '97. Hopefully 98 will be better.
Take care all.
