There has been some discussion on the List lately concerning
ordering '98 Dakota's, wait time, intransit time etc, etc.
Since I have access to Mother Mopars production schedules
I thought I would pass some info to all the folks that have ordered
or are considering ordering a '98 Dakota.
As most of you know, all Dakota's are built at Dodge City Assembly
Plant, Mound Road and 8-Mile in Warren, Michigan (about 12 miles from me).
As of Jan 13, 1998 the daily truck production rate was 1032 units.
Out of this, 387 are Rams and 645 are Dakotas. (Rams are also built
in St. Louis and Mexico). Of the 645 Dakota's, 198 are 4X4 and 447 4X2.
Production rates vary often for many reasons. The production rates
dated Jan 20, 1998 showing the Body split vary slightly from the January 13th
forecast. They are as follows: Reg. Cab 4X2 = 217 + 13 (Canada)
                                              Reg. Cab 4X4 = 25 + 6 (Canada)
                                              ClubCab 4X2 = 185 + 17 (Canada
& 2 Export)
                                              ClubCab 4X4 = 116 + 62 (Canada
& 1 Export)
Our beloved 5.2 Magnum V8 is built at the Mound Road Engine Plant
Mound Road and OuterDrive in Detroit. The production rates for this plant
as of Jan 21, 1998 are:
3.9 V6 - 606, 5.2 V8 - 1594, Ram V10 - 63, Viper V10 - 10
Toluca Engine Plant in Mexico builds the 5.9 V8 at 1000 per day.
The 4-Speed Automatic Transmission comes from Kokomo Transmission
in Indiana. I don't have any current info on the 5-Speed but I think it
comes from New Process Gear in Syracuse, New York. I could be wrong.

For any of you folks that have already ordered a '98 Dakota and are waiting,
if you can get the VON (Vehicle Order Number) or the VIN Vehicle
Identification Number) and forward it to me via private E:Mail I can get
the current status of the vehicle via the computer systems. I will forward
what information I can get to you via private E:mail or fax you a copy of
the printout.

Hope this information is useful and/or interesting to some of you out there.

Good day......
