On the contrary. You'd never get started with wide tires. For Wet/Snow
traction, the thinner the better (Pressure = force/surface area)... the
more surface area between the tire and road, the less pressure your truck
exerts on the road resulting in less traction. That's part of why chains
work - they lessen the surface area on the road. Deep/wide tread pattern
would work similarly.
I have the same concerns with my 4x2. I'm planning on getting on off-road
type of tread, and keep lots of weight in the back (topper and
tubes-o'-sand) during the snowy months.
