Well, I'm sort of in the middle of another little "spurt" of
modifications to the Dak. :-) I just had the windows tinted
(20% on the sides and 5% on the rear), and I just finished putting
my DDBC (dakota decal by Clark) on the rear window; looks pretty
nice, if I say so myself! :-) The tinting was $90, BTW, which
I didn't think was too terribly bad, considering that I've got a
split rear window. I didn't have any put on the front window
since I've already replaced 2 front windshields already; due to
stones and heat cracking it.

Anyway, I've been meaning to check into the new '96 SBEC's,
and I just finished doing that; I figured I should give
everyone else the info in case anyone else is contemplating
it... I used the part number for a '96 318 5-speed given to
the list by Brad (Thanks Brad!): P4876137.

I called Jegs first; the guy on the phone was kind of a jerk,
I guess it just must have been the luck of the draw; I ordered
a 5-point harness from them a while ago and the lady I talked
to was very nice... Anyway, they wanted $311.

Summit was next; the guy on the phone was much more
professional, but they wanted $324.

Ned (Vogler) has told me on several occasions about this
great place called Barrington Dodge which has a catalog
dedicated just to Dakotas ("Dakota Country"). I found an old
e-mail message from him that had the number in it and called 'em.
$279. I ordered one right there, over the phone. I also piced up
a Dakota Country catalog and a MP catalog. (Actually, the guy
threw in the Dakota catalog for free.) This place appears to
be just the parts counter at a dealership, but the guy I
talked to was very professional.

Now someone will probably post a price lower than $279. :-)
Oh well, that's already $20 cheaper than I thought I'd have to
spend for it, so I'm happy. Its also nice to patronize a place
that puts out a dedicated Dakota catalog. I can't wait to
check it out! :-)

I guess its time to start checking out those 180 degree
thermostats. :-)
