Welcome Jay! As for small car vs V8 trucks, they are different beasts.
Don't pretend otherwise. I bought my '98 Dak with thoughts of towing my car
 ( '79 Lotus Esprit)to track events. There's no way the 4000 lb Dak 4X4 with 31" tires
is gonna outhandle the 2300 lb Lotus, but the Dak (CC) can haul SO much more
and it ain't too shabby on the acceleration either. The car has to
be kept on the cam (4K-7K) and has no low end. The Dak's got tons
of torque down low (towing) but factory redline is 4700 rpms (my car
is just getting started!). Its a different driving experience having
a torquier engine down low (2500 -4500). The thrill is
definitely there with the Dak, but different. I can't resist getting
on it with either, but the Dak gives you the punch out of the hole
and you can back off sooner while still getting your thrills whereas
I feel I'm more likely to get a ticket in the car by the time you're
really having fun.

You're giving them WAY too much profit. I ordered my truck from a
place that advertised $200 under invoice, but after they tack on the
$300 advertising fee I ended up paying $100 over invoice using the
KBB or Edmunds figures. (truck was $4000 off list). I know others
can push harder and do better, but expect to get this without too
much work when armed with the invoice prices.

Since you are ordering it there is no overhead for them. One local
dealer tried the "I'm not making any money" BS on me and wanted $500
more than I paid. (claims the other dealer can't do it for that) I told him that if
the other dealer's prices were legit I wouldn't be back and this was his chance to
close the deal. He stuck with his poker face and lost the deal (greed
driving him for something that is already pure profit for him).

Good luck
