   That's exactly what I did. I traded in my '91 3000GT VR-4 on my
Dakota a little over 2 years ago. There weren't really any cars on
the market that I could get excited about, and I also kind of wanted
a truck. As far as trucks go, the Dakota was really the only thing in the
running; in a class all by itself.

   As another poster said, the Dakota is definitely not a sports car;
there is a noticable difference. A lot of people have compared the Dakota
to a 60's or 70's musclecar, and I think its a good comparison. The
accelleration and torque is great; they'll go fast in a straight line,
but they won't carve through the twisties like a sports car. My truck
is as much fun as the VR-4 was, but its a different kind of fun.
Fatter tires would help, and you can also lower it, and get a rear
anti-sway bar. I don't have the anti-sway bar on mine now, but I plan to
get one.

Its too bad the R/T isn't availible as a standard... Those of us
who come from sports cars where the fun comes from rowing through the
gears in the twisties just can't understand a performance vehicle
with an auto. :-)

It is a lot easier said than done, but if at all possible, I
would suggest taking a test drive in a v8 5-speed. I couldn't; I
test drove 6's with both autos and 5-speeds, and a v8 with an auto.
The first time I drove a v8 5-speed was when I drove my new truck off
the lot. Depending on where you live though, it might just be possible.

  Good luck!
