  Jack,

Sorry that I haven't responded; I had your message flagged to
respond to it, but it fell by the wayside, as most things seem to
do these days... :-P

I like the idea, but my main concern is the cost. As I
understand it, Internic charges $100 for the first 2 years,
and $50 per year thereafter. The cost for the list itself
is $120/year. I'm sure you don't want to pay the $50 yourself
every year, just like I can't afford to pay $120 every year for
the list. Several DML members have proven to be most generous with
their donations to keep the list running, but this would bring the
total up to $170/year.

Wether or not the DML'ers want to support this much is unknown,
I guess... If half of the members were to donate $1 per year, that
would cover it; that doesn't sound like much, but actually getting
people to send you the check is another story. :-) For example,
there are 13 people (including myself) who have contributed to the
DML, so 13 people are footing the expenses for 350+. Granted, this
may be because one very generous list member alone contributed enough
to keep us alive for more than an entire year; they probably figure
that I've got enough (The list is paid up through 2000) and they
may be planning to donate once the money starts to be used up. Makes
sense.

One thought that comes to mind is that maybe we could "pool" our
expenses such that maybe I could receive the donations as usual and
then cut you a check for your expenses. Of course, that assumes that the
people who contributed are willing to support the domain name. I
wouldn't feel right about using their donations for something that
they didn't really contribute for; I'd have to check with them first...
And any future contributors could specify wether they want to support
the listserv, domain name, or all of the above...

BTW: If someone was to go to http://www.dakota-truck.net/, where
would they end up? Would that direct them to the current DML Home Page?
IMHO, that would be the optimal solution, but I'm not sure if that would
interfere with having "individual" redirections too. (Like http://.../mclark,
http://.../rpm, etc.)

Of course, if we did go ahead and get a domain name, we'd just HAVE to
design a DML logo and then get vinyl decals for our trucks! :-) And
T-shirts, etc... =)

For the record, if enough other people are interested, I'd certainly
chip in.
