This is a very common failure mechanism in motorcycle batteries. They
just pop like a fuse and are open circuited. Put any load at all on
them and you get near zero volts. Once when I hit the starter button
there was a faint pop from under the seat and everything was dead. I
couldn't even push start it. I'm not sure if all motorcycle batteries
are made like crap (there are only 2 or 3 factories world wide for bike
batteries) or if it is the vibration that kills them. I've only ever
heard of one car battery popping like this before.
