I've heard from several people that the liner not only eliminates noise,
but also helps prevent damage to paint. I'm not sure of the exact reason
why. It has something to do with the hood heating and cooling quickly and
unevenly which can dull the paint. I've also heard that the liner is
beneficial in helping to get the engine warm in the winter, and in keeping
the engine warm after shutoff.
Just my $0.02
