Well I have had a similar problem with my 91 Dak. Sometimes it would turn
the motor great but no ignition. So after giving up i came back to it about
30mins later and it cranked right up. Now i didnt have any rough idle or
any thing like that before when i turned the truck off last it just didnt
want to start. Anyway it did it to me one other time when I was leaving
work. It turn fine but no ignition. So i didnt try a second time and just
took the key out put it right back in she started right up. Go figure.
So about your question I have the Haynes manual that is for the 1987-1996
(the black book) and it tells you how to perform the computer check to give
you the check engine codes it also gives you a list of what the codes mean.
It is on p.6-2,6-3 Chapter 6 Emissions control systems section. If you
still cant find it the test is simple turn the check to the on position (but
dont crank it) then all the way off back on again and off then back on
within 5 secs. 2 on offs and then back on. If you need to know the codes
just repost. Hope this helps and if you find out what the problem is please
let me know it might give me some insight. Good Luck
Tony
