1" lowering blocks

Just got my 1" blocks for the rear from summit today. If you don't
remember I had originally installed 2" blocks, but felt that it was a
tad to low for my taste so I sent them back for 1 inchers. Well I put
them on this evening and while I was tightening them down I heard a loud
pop. Got to looking and sure enough the bastard had cracked. Not a bad
crack just a hairline on one side of the block. Needless to say....
pissed. I was more careful on the other side made sure to tighten down
evenly on all four nuts.... POP! once again.... more pissed. Same type
of crack, vertical hairline on one side. It doesn't look like this will
hurt anything, but I will keep a CLOSE eye on them for a while. I would
return them to Summit, but I cut the U-bolt ends so they would not
protrude down so far. What kind of problems can a small crack in the
lowering blocks cause?

On a happier note I think I have located the problem with my headers
hitting the lower control arm bracket. I found the joint where the
headers dump into the cat pipe was loose (just aft of the O2 sens.).
While prying on the passenger side header the two pipes at this joint
would slip in and out of each other. Obviously this means I also had a
pretty good exhaust leak, lot of carbon around the pipes. So I pryed on
the header as hard as I could, held it there and then tightened the
clamp as tight as I could. When I let go the two pipes didn't slip and
that gave me a few milimeters of clearance. Don't know if it was
enough, but so far they have not rattled anymore. But I've only driven
it once so far... keeping my fingers crossed.
