Airflow idea

As for limits in increasing airflow, unless someone here on the list has
some reason not to do this, give it a try and it will bear out the fact
that there is no such thing as too much air. Do both at once for biggest
effect. Take off the hold down nut for the box on the throttle body and
cock the box over to the side a little, then pull the filter out of the air
box. I did it this way so that there would still be some air flowing
through the crankcase breather, but also, just about max air through the
throttle body. Drive your truck around for about five minutes and you will
wish that you had (or at least wish you had the effect of) your whole hood
set up ad a big scoop vented to your throttle body!

WOULD LIKE FEEDBACK on this idea: we've all heard the saying "kiss" (keep
it simple, Tate). I thought about this last night - anyone ever look at a
pro-stocker's intake with that big, flat pan on top of it that mates to the
bottom of the scoop? Why not find a 2" or 2.5" tall rectangular or oval
element that's about 9"x18" (as big as possible) and install it with a
couple of aluminum plates. Being narrow (9" - whatever will fit and give a
little clearance to the firewall), wide (could probably be more than 18")
and short, it should fit with no problem. Throw a pcv hose fitting on the
thing and you're in business. If you could find a filter with those
dimensions, it looks to me like it would be easy, cheap, and you could make
it look as nice as you wanted. Tired of waiting on an FIPK from K&N.
 Comments?

Subject: DML: Mods with OBII

I have some questions regarding modifications with OBII. I just bought a
98,
318, 5 speed and I don't have the service manual for it yet. What exactly
happens if the computer gets a fault, like when it doesn't run through a
complete warm cycle? Does the truck go into some type of limp in mode
where
you have to see your friendly Dodge dealer to get it running again? If
you
install a 180 degree or lower thermostat what effect does this have on
performance, emissions and the computer itself. What are the limits in
increasing air flow before you have problems? I understand OBII is harder
to
work around but there must be ways to approach these concerns.

Has anyone done anything other than airboxes and exhaust mods to a vehicle
with OBII? I would like to increase performance, and hopefully keep it
close
to legal.

Thanks,
Wayne
