Glenn,
I have the halogen back up lights and they are brighter. The bulbs
are much better than the stock ones. Unfortunatley, they filliment
may not be in the optimum place with respect to the reflector for
the best light output from the lamp. Still they are better.
They do get hot. The manufacturer warns against keeping them on
more than 2 minutes. I don't know why I would have them on that
long, so it is not a problem for me.
The best solution would be a set of real back up lights.
I have found that using the side view mirrors makes backing up
easier for tight quarters at night. This eliminates the dark tint
on the rear window.
