Radar Detectors in and out of Dak's

To all concerned about radar detectors:

Opponents argue that radar detectors cause drivers to speed, that speeding
causes accidents and so detectors should be banned. Without knowing the facts,
this reasoning may sound believable. But it is a myth.
Radar dectector use has been studied many numerous times, and no research has
uncovered a link between detector use and accidents. None. Instead studies
have found radar detector users as a class do not travel faster or become
involved in accidents more
often than other drivers. One research group concluded that a national radar
detector ban covering trucks and buses would cost states $900 million to
enforce, with little or no improvement in safety.
Doesn't it stand to reason that with millions of radar detectors in use
across the country, any safety problems associated with detector use would
show up in federal accident and fatality statistics? The fact is that the
nations streets and highways are becoming markedly safer.
Traffic deaths have been steadily falling since 1988 and in 1992 dropped to
the lowest level in 30 years. In addition the milage based fatality rate has
never been lower than it is now. Consider too, that these improvements have
come at a time of higher interstate speed limits. There is no radar detector
problem-other than the problem some organizations and companies have with
people avoiding tickets they don't deserve.

MYTH:
Radar detectors are a safty hazzard
FACT:
There is no link between detector use and speeding or accidents.

MYTH:
If you get a speeding ticket , you deserve it!
FACT:
Police radar (including the laser speed gun)make mistakes and can be misused.

MYTH:
"Somebody else will make sure radar detectors remain legal"
FACT:
There is no "somebody else". Without you involvment, the myth-makers will ban
your detector.

PS: The revalance to this post on the DML is the detector in MY DAKOTA and the
