Glen,
I have been tracking my mileage religiously and I am not a happy
camper. My all time low was 11.09, the all time high was 14.93 (once
--all highway miles) and my running average is 12.24 as of 2,016 miles
on the truck.
I installed a drop in K&N air filter at 1,284 miles and it looks like
it might have given me between .5 and 1 more mpg (not great but I'll
take anything I can get!) I had an ARE CX cap installed @ 1,514 which
didn't change anything on the MPG score board.
Granted, I wasn't thinking MPG when I bought the truck... The thought
process was like this: I saw it, I loved it, I bought it (kinda like
getting married I guess:)! Well, the honeymoon is over and all these
shopping bills --OOPS, I mean gas bills are bugging me.
My next thought is trying one of those 180 degree thermostats. I'm
sure someone on the list can provide a clear explanation of how this
works, but my understanding is that this thermostat will tell the
OBDII system that the engine is at the right temp. for the most
efficient mix of fuel and air. --A little help here from the list
would be appreciated...
My truck setup is pretty close to yours: '98 Sport+ CC, 4X4, 5.2L V8,
Auto, 3.55 axle, Full Time 4WD, 31x10.5" tires, A/C, K&N Drop-In, ARE
CX Cap.
