My dealer said the same thing. My truck shipped 3 weeks later, and took
1 week to get to Connecticut. He told me to wait on the extra stuff.
They told me to come down to the dealership about a week before the
truck came in. I went down and ordered the side-steps and the
fiberglass cover. The side-steps came in, and where installed on the
truck when I picked it up. The cover took about another 2 weeks or so.
I would say that your guess is correct. They probably didn't order
anything until they where sure the truck was shipping.
Good luck!

You can have the auto-locks turned on and the horn beep for the keyless
when it locks the doors. I don't care about the horn, but I am going
to get the dealer to turn my auto-locks on. Supposedly it is in the
manual (somewhere). I have to look again because I did not see it the
first time. The main reason I know is I have a co-worker with a '97 and
he had those two options turned on. He does not have the security
package so they appear to be unrelated options.
I will check next Friday and see if they have a list of options that
can be turned on when I take it in to have the tubular side steps put
on. Can you believe that I takes 6-8 weeks to order a truck and it
comes in before the side-steps (which I ordered at the same time). My
guess is the dealer didn't want to order them until the truck was
shipped from the factory.
