Alan, what is the life expectacy of one of these "idle air control" things
and should on carry a spare in their truck? Mine went a few weeks ago
about 70k but I bought the truck used so I don't know if it has ever had it
replaced.

I had the same problem Russ, turned out to be the "idle air control
motor". Their not expensive and 2 torx screws hold it onto the back
side of your throttle body.

Hope this helps
