I would say it depends on the purpose. The article in Mopar Muscle (May
97) says quote:

' Reducing the thermo's temp rating is bad for engine longevity too. OE
engineers realized a long time ago that the quicker an engine heats up
the sooner you'll be making horsepower and the less an engine will wear
out rings, piston bore surfaces, bearings and other moving parts. '

The article also mentions that ' Racing oils have virtually no
protection when cold'.

Another quote:

' Get an engine warm quickly and you'll have an engine that will last a
lot longer and make more power than an engine continually run on the
cool side, plus it will run more consistently. '

It seems the 180 thermostat is helping eliminate the pinging some of you
are experiencing. I have the MPSMEC in my '96 Dak and have not had any
pinging under normal driving or towing. I don't think a 15 degree drop
in temp will hurt. I believe the 180 is a substitute when the 195 is
not available.

Bottom line: If the 180 fixes the pinging problem, I'd use it.
Otherwise, leave the 195 in place.

My opinions only. (except for the quotes)
