What is the infamous 318 exhaust back-pressure problem? Are you
referring to the exhaust backfire/popping that occurs with heavy engine
braking?

One of the guys who used to be on the list has been pursuing this
problem. Here are a couple of emails I got from him recently...

My 98 with v8 and 5spd also has the backfire problem, although it may
not be as severe as for some. Once it sounds like there is a solid
fix/TSB available, I'm going to get it corrected.

I have been afraid of installing an aftermarket exhaust and then having
it blown off or damaged due to the backfire - sorry buddy, that Gibson
exhaust is not covered under your CC warranty... that'll be another $250
please...
