The early Dakotas had both an oil pressure gauge and an idiot light. My =
gauge sender failed fairly quickly and would some times read correct and =
some times read very low but the light stayed off! =
My guess is that you need the sender replaced.

BTW,
The snowplough models also had a factory transmission temperature warning =
light. Mine did but the wire from the sender to the factory harness was =
not installed and was not listed in the factory manuals...
