Jack,
Maybe (pure speculation) the ones at the head pipes are used as misfire
sensors? If so, maybe some analog electronics could be added to "adjust"
their response time and reduce/eliminate misfire sensing due to a lumpy
bumpstick installation?? This is beginning to sound like work...
