My hood came flyin' off

Well here's the story, I changed my oil today no big deal all went fine.
Afterwords I took off on a test drive and as i pulled up to speed (55-60) on
the main road less than a mile from my house the hood latch decided to give
and my hood met my windsheild (no damage to the glass). Luckily I remained
calm and slowed down and pulled off to the side of the road without
incident. I pulled the hood down as far as it would go and turned around
and went back to my house. I looked at it for a few minutes to asses the
damage. The hood was bent in a few places but not that bad but the hinges
were really mangled. I punched out the biggest dents with my hands and left
the others. I then took off the hood and got a good look at the hinges and
proceded to take the wipers and then the cowl off to get to the hinges.
After some swearing i got it all off. After examning the latch on the hood
i noticed it did not spring back into place after pushing on it.
So now it looks like i need to go out and get a few things tomorrow at the
dodge dealership, new hinges, latch and new wipers since i broke the
little metal things that hold them on. Has anyone had this happen to them
before I not sure if i can call this a defect or not since its a 93 with
53,000 miles on it, but who knows??? Is there anything I need to know about
putting this all back together, I'm not really sure about seals in the cowl
and whatnot.

Thanks for any help or info,

Chris (Hoodless) Lang
