I don't know how much you could machine down .. I really haven't taken a look
at the stock pulleys, but I'm sure they're either cast or stamped out of
something for ease of production, and I'll bet they're as thin as possible..
BUT, I may be wrong.

could probably have them chrome (or nickel) plated to give a tougher surface
for the belt to run on. >>
A casting would require a mold, not sure if you'll find anyone with a mold for
a set of stock pulleys for a Dakota . A better choice would be a hardcoat of
some sort rather than a show chrome or nickel plating for durability's
purpose.
