I had something like that happen to me on my 88. It would quit once in a
while, but not when I needed to duplicate the problem. It turned out that
their was 8 years of road grime built up on the electronic connectors for
the tranny. The connections weren't very good at that point and
explained why it worked sometimes, and sometimes didn't work...simple
solution to a big problem... he he
