Frank has an oil cooler on his Ram that uses a sandwich adaptor under the
oil filter and a stacked plate cooler (B&M I think). Its a clean
installation and shouldnt run more than 100.00. Ive havnt used non factory
engine oil coolers since I lost a line on my 65 cuda resulting in a fire as
well as a few smoked bearings. It was probably my fault, but it leaves you
"gun shy" of porting your oil around externally. My Interceptor has an
engine oil cooler from the factory. One of its hoses sprang a pinhole leak
and made a mess but didnt toast anything. Ill check my R/T since it has the
same engine package as yours, but I think the "cooling" part relates to the
size of the radiator and the trans cooler. I havnt IDd any lines from any
pressurized oil passages on the block though...

My sticker says "Engine Cooling: Heavy Duty" and when I asked the mech
what that was he said that an oil cooler was added to the truck to make the
engine run cooler under heavy loads. I asked if that was in addition to the
tranny cooler and he said yes. You made me curious so I went and checked it
out. I could only see three radiators (I'm assuming one is the A/C
condensor)
but I did notice that one of them had 2 feeds and 2 returns. Without
tracing
all the lines back I couldn't say whether this was a combo tranny/oil cooler
or not.
I'll trust ya on this one, but I tell ya, I'm bummed if I was
misinformed.
I will end up installing a third party oil cooler if it doesn't have one
already, one with an electric pump hooked to the door switches. I wanted a
truck with all of this on the engine and had my roommate search for one. I
hate the color (Black) [only because it's a pain to keep up], but I took it
because it was the only Dak in all of Southern California with all the
goodies, and did we exhaust the poor Chrysler computers looking for it! So
if
you're right, I'm not thrilled.
I don't think it's "extreme" at all. I think all cars should have oil
coolers if they do any kind of work. I know these devices can save motors
and
ease burdens on your cooling system on hot days. They're not all that
expensive either.

i dont think any of the dodge lineup except maybe the shelby vipers or GTS
vipers have engine oil coolers. This would be an Extreme option for a
"normal" truck, even the R/T. You can cetainly put one on your truck, but
youll have to use an oil filter "sandwich" adapter or a remote oil
filter/adaptor set up.
