Hmmmmmmm...
Looks like I'm gonna' be a disagreeable SOB tonight... The nature of
driving long distance through a snow storm is your going to hit nasty
spots and not-so-nasty spots as you travel (depends on the storm and
how good the plow guys are in any given township). Moreover, your not
gonna' want to shift in and out of the part-time system as your moving
at speed. Without getting into the technical, I believe the Full-Time
aspect saves your rig when your driving at near highway speeds and
turning...
With the 31x10.5's I've never had to shift into 4WD because of rain.
Funny thing about a 4X4 is that you may be able to getting moving
faster on a road but you stop (or not) the same as everyone else...
Seen too many fools with a shiteating grin on their face as they took
off only to be cryin' in their beer when they slid into a tree or
ditch!

Don't think so. Part time 4wd is for slippery surfaces....you
were driving in snow. The only time you will damage it is on dry
pavement. Anything else (snow, mud, gravel etc.) is sufficiently
slick to allow slippage of the wheels.
Full time 4wd is great (not available in 97, or I would have
bought it), it's big safety advantage is in rainy weather on pavement.
