When I worked as a mechanic (lube bitch) for a trucking company, I was told to
fill it up. But understand, a rig's oil filter is about 12 inches long and it
screws up at a neat 90 degrees.
I dont think it would hurt our trucks to screw up dry, but you could fill up
half way too. THis way you dont spill any of that expensive stuff.
I have always primed my engine.
Before you start, take off the Ignition coil wire and crank her over until you
have pressure. Lately, I dont know if this is a good idea or not. My old 87
3.9 used to prime right away. My 92 5.2 takes forever to bring up pressure.
I dont want to prematurely kill my starter.
