>Filling up the oil filter with fresh oil before screwing it back on does
a couple of things. First it bleeds air that would of been in the filter if
it wasn't filled and that air doesn't go the top of the engine that doesn't
have oil due to the oil being drained. Second, it helps with a priming
action on the oil pump to do an easier job of getting oil to the top of the
engine that doesn't have enough oil to do it's job of lubricating when an
engine is first started up. It's true that there is some oil at the top of
an engine in the nooks and crannies but there may not be enough in the
oiling holes of the lifters, cam or other various needed areas that rely on
FULL PRESSURE from the oil pump and required amount of oil in the pan. The
idea of disconnecting the coil does the action of priming the oil filter and
getting rid of air pockets if you didn't fill the oil filter first--it just
keeps the vehicle from starting while priming, once a few seconds (around 5
to 10 ) have been accomplished with using the starter then rehook up the
coil again and check for oil leaks--if none--you're on your way
