Leaking around seals is a well known problem with synthetic oil...problem is
that the seals - especially from a few years back - were not formulated to
work with synthetics.
M Benz warned all owners of cars built prior to 97 not to use synthetic for
this very reason. Also seems more likely to happen when owner uses dino oil
for a while, then switches to synthetic.
