Tooling down a secondary road in my 95' SLT 5.2L (mildly worked), I noticed a
couple of slanty-eyed head lights coming up quickly from behind. They reached
me and pulled along side just as we came to a red light. Some wise ass kid in his
late model Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX (turbo). Obviously we knew where this wasgoing to go
..perhaps the exchanged (blank)-- eatin grins and a couple of blips of his throttle telling me he probably had a 5 -speed. I thought I'd give him a chance to let himself off the hook; so when the light turned green, I eased into the throttle for the first 10 feet or so (also insured a good hook-up for me). Not this this guy..he was going to show me how slick he was. Of course I had to nail it and see if in fact he was as slick as he thought. I was up dead even with him through his 2-3
and 3-4 power shifts (chirping as he went). Out of the corner of my eye I saw a tense looking smile on his face as I could imagine him wondering how it was that I was still even
with him after about 1/6 mi and soon he was looking at himself; taking inventory of
his facial blemishes through my right side mirror. That was plenty to prove the point for
me (also my girlfreind was with me) and I backed off (72 mph is approaching insanity on these roads) . I'll bet he thought I'd be a cinch to blow away!
