<< Manual tranmissions are going the way of the dodo bird because the
automatics are so much better than they were 20 years age ...not people
getting lazy...Same goes for power steering and power brakes. Not only are
modern cars easier to drive, but they're safer to drive as well. Overdrives
allow you to have lower rear end gearing for pulling power, but still get good
gas mileage on the highway.

I'm sure you will always be able to get a manual tranmission for those who
prefer the 'sporty' feel...but, the car may be built by a Japanese company.

I wouldnt say autos are better then they used to be, more conveinent, but not
better. Working at a dealership, I can attest to a lot of new trannies going
south before they reach 30-40,000 miles. Of course, these are Mazdas, with
trannies built by Ford!!! Problem is, they make the new trannies shift so
smooth, that they have to let the clutch packs slip alot longer for smooth
engagement. This heats up the discs and wears them out quicker. This doesnt
just happen in Mazdas, we have 5 car lines, and all but Volvo have these
problems, including Isuzu, VW, and Audi. Not to mention friends I have that
work at other dealerships also talkign about this.
