Most 5-speeds in pro-stock work like a "clutch-flite" auto. with a manual
valve body. The clutch is only used during the launch. Each section has
it's own planetary gears, and doesn't use the clutch to shift. At least the
Lenco that I used works this way, and weather you use a button (air
shifter) or a set of "lightning rods" (that look much cooler), they still
work the same. Of course, the button isn't as fun as the rods, and that's
why we race? Glen.
