Suppose Id rather have a14X3 than the big tube and conical for purely non
technical reasons, although your rationale makes sense. Gotta get rid of
those "broken air horns" on the TB to get the "floret" pattern to work
though... Im going to try my 65 Commando Air cleaner assy on my truck to
see.

just looked at backpage. no, but i do not feel that an enclosed unit such
as that will outperform the open element as my point is directed at total
cfm flow at the point of usage... ie the tbi... atmospheric is a large
bushel of avail air... avail 360-degress... tube ducts are limited to
efficiency and cfm flow capability. cfm killers are spiral wound low cost
dryer vent-type of duct work. the shortest distance provides best results
and the 14" is clearly the winner in the shortest distance race...

i have not tested every offering... but believe many are results of
home-grown ideas... style aside... why would anyone offer a small tube with
a small filter... square inch area-wise... even at $200 i'd buy the k&n
genll over the others... 14" fipk aside as aero chambers can create
special flow effects that exceed the sum of the digits... k&n says 19hp on
a g cherokee... rear wheels... on consistant basis. that warrants serious
further investigation... the gc has flow problems... so this # is
impressive!

the best unit to use for power will always be the one that provides the
best cfm up to ve limits of the engine... but cfm alone is not total
answer... air stream stabilty... turbulence as the air col turns etc all
play a part in what ends up in the combustion chamber...

a hi flow distruptive column of air will not fill the cylinder as well as a
tight high density column of air will all else being equal...

most tube systems create unbalanced flow characteristics as air turn into
port. the 14" for ex offers a relatively smooth floral shape 360-degree
volume of air for the tbi to draw from and you get a balance, enhanced
delivery...
