Boog,
I checked in my 95 service manual, operating temperature is approx. 170
degrees. The 95's are OBD so I would think this info would be applicable to
95's and older. Are you sure that you have a 180 degree thermostat??? It's
possible that yours could have been mispackaged incorrectly stamped, or just
opens too soon. Just a suggestion, get a new one and place it in a pot of
water on the stove. Heat the water and use a cooking thermometer to observe
the temperature where the thermostat starts to open. The 180's start to open
at 180 degrees give or take a couple of degrees. The 180's should not give
you any error codes, the 160's will.
