Power *DOES* make a difference, but only if it's *CLEAN* power. The general
idea is to have an amplifier that can "loaf" at the load you're presenting to
it. Also, high current handling is important. Choose class A amplification
over AB, if possible, and *NEVER* buy class B or C. The Soundstream equipment
is good stuff. If I remember correctly, they're one of the few class A amps
available for car audio. (There are a few tube amps available, but they're
mucho expensive and require massive power supplies.)
My P.O.S. '75 Oldsmobubble Omega (as in, the *last* one of those I ever buy!)
had one heck of a sound system with a set of Nakamichi SP200 speakers on the
back deck. I needed a better amp, though. I had a flea-market el-cheepo amp.
When I bought a new vehicle, I dumped the old amp and put in a set of Clarions.
Next vehicle will get *much* better amplification.
