rear gears

I have a shop that installs gears for me and it usually runs @$450,
parts, labor, and tax. That is wholesale, he sells 15% higher retail.
  It is true what someone posted about the $100 shops, you get what you
pay for. (What you'll get is short gear life, and rear end whine like
you never heard before!) Setting the pinion depth and side gears is
very critical, and it must be adjusted to leave the proper tooth contact
pattern on the ring gear. Too much shimming one way or the other will
have detrimental effects.
  The hard part isn't installing them, its setting these clearances...
