I have been reading with interest the comments on the DML
concerning gas mileage with the FABM/K&N and performance
problems with the Flowmaster exhaust.
I have no doubt that the Race Master and Gibson perform well
on Dakotas. But, from personal experience, I do not see a
problem with the Flowmaster. My Dakota is a '97 CC V8
Auto with 3.92 Tracklock. I drove the truck in stock form for
about 2,500 miles. I then installed a 10X3 FABM/K&N and the
Flowmaster 2Chamber twin outlet Cat/Back system.
I now have just under 45,000 miles on the Dakota. I have know idea
how much of a horsepower I may of gained; maybe none. But I can
honestly say there was a very noticable torque increase. Also, my
mileage has been better than I though it would be. Several times I
have gotten 18.5 MPG at normal highway speeds and 15.5 in normal
urban driving. I have traveled the Oklahoma Turnpike at an even 100 MPH
to the Missouri state line with a full bed (to the cover) and averaged just
over 14.5 MPG. (And no, I don't condone driving that fast on public highways-
must have been a laps of sanity) I do not race the truck on the track.
But on the road, I don't think it could run any better.
Just my own opinion...I am happy with both modifications.
