<< hey how reliable was that 2000 some CC motor. I got a bug that i am in the
middle of restoring that needs a big motor. If you would, could you provide
me with some specs on that motor. I have a 1974 standard beetle that is
getting lowered 2 1/2" in the front with alcoa aluminum rims and a fiberglass
front end that makes it look like a 37 Ford Roadster. I have 8" wide tires
all
the way around under widened fiberglass fenders and it is painted prowler
purple. Flames to be added soon. I'm thinking pearl white. Anyway, any good
 motor advivce would be appreciated.

Build around 2000cc's. Dont use a crank over 78mm stroke or pistons over
90.5mm. Make sure and use a counterweighted crank, 8 dowel flywheel, and a
late model (71 and newer) engine case with dual oil relief, and a doghouse oil
cooler set up. Have it all balanced, and definetly spend the money on the
heads! Dont just use 041's. They are kinda hard to find anyways. CB
Performance makes some nice Magnum 44's. 42x37.5 valves. Use an Engle W120 or
FK-8 cam. The 120 needs 1.25 ratio rockers, the FK-8 has to use 1.4, no
lower!!!!!! Have the motor built buy someone that does nothing but VW and
Porsche motors. Make sure the compression stays around 9:1. Use a merged
header, not the normal ones. I would use dual 44mm Weber carbs on it. A
1700lb clutch, and maybe beef the trans too. I always used solid tranny
mounts, as I had a tendency to rip stock, and urethane mounts. If you have
any more questions, send me private e-mail.

Dak content: I discharged my A/C so I can finish pulling out my heater care
and fix the leak. I am gonna leave the A/C out. Cant work on it tonight
