You guys with the pinging problem (me included). Have you tried a colder
spark plug. Guys who use NOS or boost and even iron heads can go one heat
range down to help with detonation. I may try it by next summer.

MP SBEC

                DML,
Installed the 180 thermostat today. Took it for a
test run, and got one or
two pings with the engine not even up to its new operating
temp. yet. Once it
warmed up to its new temp., experienced similar rapid
pinging as yesterday,
but not quite as bad. Detonation occured around 4300 on
first run, and about
                3400 on second run.
Obviously I still have a problem. The only possible
cause that I can think of
now is lack of fuel. I bought the truck used with 43,000
miles on it and now
it has about 73,000. My guess is that the fuel filter has
never been changed.
                I'll try this next.
