In a message dated 98-12-22 21:44:56 EST, you write:

<< I've been wanting to get a switch that'll shut off the engine
if the oil pressure drops too low, and I was surprised to
see one in my new 1999 Mopar Performance catalog (15psi). I was
even more suprised at the price; really cheap! I don't remember
the exact price now, but I think it was about $15. Unfortunately,
they didn't list any applications; do you think it would work on
my Dak? Is 15psi a good place to shut off the engine, or could the
pressure drop below that during normal operation?

(Yeah yeah, I know, just call the hotline...) ;-) I thought
someone here might have some additional info or insights though.

   Thanks!

Interesting question. Last night, while waiting for a green light and a
potential rice rocket spank, my stock oil gauge dropped like a rock, and the
idiot light came on. Well, above 1500rpm the gauge was cool, so I drove home.
No, I didn't race the Acura!!! Anyways, I get home, pull out my Mopar Magnum
Engine book, and start reading. In the oil system section, it says that 6 psi
minimum at idle and between 30-80 psi at or above 3000rpm. I drove the truck
to work this morning. ( Looking for an excuse to rebuild, am I?????) After
work, we pulled the sender, put in another, and changed oil and filter. Same
thing, gauge still reading low with the light on. We then put my brand new
Mac Tools oil pressure gauge right were the sender goes. At idle, my truck
has 10psi, at 3000rpm it has 50psi. My truck falls in the range of normal oil
pressure. Why is my gauge and idiot light doing what its doing??? Any help?
Possible the gauge is screwed up? Anyone have a mechanical pressure gauge
that can give me their readings at idle? Thanks!

Brad
