MP lists forged and billet cranks too. And I would rather trust a spanking
new forged crank than a thirty year old one. Metallurgy has come a long way
in that time. I believe any 318 crank will work in a Magnum engine. Someone
could call the tech hotline and ask... The catalog draws a distinction
between "273-318-340" mains and 360 main journals. Are those the big end of
the rods, or the main bearings? There are a lot more options under the
"273-318-340" listings. But if you plan to use NOS, I think the beefier (?)
360 setup might be the way to go.

If price were no object, starting with an MP race block, with thicker deck,
would hold up to NOS a lot better than any production block. Another call
to the MP tech line is needed though, since I donīt know if the race block
will accept the Magnum heads.

Is the tech line (248 area code) a local call for any list members?
