Eric -
They have to run out of A-engines sooner or later. I think the main
reason for the new engine is emissions, but I would expect (if you guys in
tech center are doing your job) that the new engine family is cheaper to
make too. As far as I know, the 4.7 is only in a few models this year.
They´ll work the bugs out, then ramp up to replace all 5.2/5.9/8.0
applications.

IMHO, the 5.2/5.9 is going to offer a lot more room for aftermarket power.
The 4.7 is a higher state of tune out of the box, but THERE´S NO
REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT. hee hee.

Just speculation, but as far as the Viper is concerned, I would expect a
new model in about 2002. I expect they´ve got enough engines in the
pipeline to last thru 2001 production (there´s still a waiting list until
almost then, isn´t there?). The car IS the engine, so a new (aluminum
fabrication???) chassis wrapped around an all new engine would make sense.

Don´t know that it´s a good analogy, but GM kept making ZR-1 Corvettes long
after their sales had dropped off, because they had a stock of Mercury
Marine engines to use up.
