The pressure on my 93 5.2 is 39 with the vacuum line off and 30 with it on.
This is how the vacuum canister on the regulator acts as accelerator pump.
When you hit it the vacuum drops off and the pressure instantly goes up. This
gives a little more fuel as you hit the gas just like a carb. The pressure
for the 94-96 trucks was set at 45-50 psi. This is how dodge was able to
claim the 24lb/hr injector rate. They did not change injectors just the
running pressure. If you are pinging when you nail the gas check elsewhere
this is not your problem. If you are starting to burn a little oil usually
through the guide seals, this could be the problem. Also check block water
pressure, low on coolant, bad cap, etc. If nothing fixes this then go to a
180 stat. Lose the underdrive pulleys and put the fan back on. If all this
doesn't do it Like my truck at 85,000 miles, you really need guide seals.
Another trick option on the V8 is to take off the bypass hose and put a
restricter in it. Take a pc. of round stock Al. that just fits in the hose a
drill a 5/16 or so hole in the middle of it put this in just on top of the
nipple on the water pump. It cannot go anywhere and make it at least 3/4
thick so it will not flip on you. To do it really right you need to get the
pc to fit in the nipple if you leave to tabs on it, it will automatically lock
into place. The best thing to do here is to invest $3.80 at the dealership
and get a nipple to see how it will fit. You can make one at your leisure and
pop it in any time.
Good luck,
