Leave the filter alone. Just set up some duzs fasteners on the inner well so
it comes off easy and trim a little of the metal edge off around the filter so
it will fit out. The 4x4 has lots of room to get at the filter over the tire.
Also, you can take off the inner wells and watch the under hood temp drop over
20 degrees at the same time. My 93 has been set up like this for over 3 yrs.
with not one problem ever.
