I know what you mean with the distortion, I was just wondering if the
factory infinity has pre amp type of outputs or speaker level outputs. Is
there an external factory amp or is the amp enclosed in the head unit.

In reference to the sound quality preamp vs. amp issue, the reason you
want to use preamp outputs whenever possible is because with the space and
financial constraints of building a head unit, it is impossible/unlikely
to have a quality amplifier built into a head unit. In fact, almost all
top-end units have NO amplifier at all. The lower-quality amplifier in
the head unit adds much more distortion (typically) than a well-built
(separate) amplifier would, so your overal sound, given the same low-level
input, is more distorted. Bottom line is, the best sound quality is going
to come from a clean head unit through a low-level output to a quality
amp.
