<< My 94 3.9L MPI Dakota Sport stalled on a busy hiway. After replacing the
fuel filter in the fuel tank(!), it still isn't running right...but
still a big improvement over not running at all. It is hard to start,
but idles okay. But give it any gas and the engine wants to die! Both
the instructions with the replacement fuel pump ($78) and the repair
book both sound as if it should run properly after reassembly without
any special start-up techniques (i.e., bleeding the fuel line, etc.). Am
I missing something, or do I have another problem? Any suggestions will
be most appreciated! >>
DAMN! Where did you get a fuel pump for $78!! When I replaced mine, NAPA had
the cheapest in my area at $130. I know the guy who sold me mine really
stressed replacing the fuel filter AFTER I put the new pump/sending unit in.
On my 93, the filter is against the frame rail, not in the tank. I was also
told to turn the key over a couple of times(but dont start it) to build up
fuel pressure. After I repplaced mine I double checked and made sure
everything was properly connectedand put back correctly, because I dint want
to drop the tank again. Are you sure you did everything ok? Hmmmm, not sure
why your Dak is running this way......did you reset your computer after the
pump change? Did you disconnect the battery before replacing the pump? Maybe
try running a water remover through the fuel system? How about a good fuel
system cleaner? I know my fuel filter gets dirty as hell after 20,000 miles.
Maybe an injector is clogged?? Hope you get it fixed!
