Have you had the radiator flushed out by a radiator expert? sounds like its
plugged. Being that age its probably due for rodding-out or totally replaced
due to plugged cores and weak metal eaten by the water corrosion--the
plugging is happening deep down in the radiator where the most cooling air
is needed. By checking the upper regions of the radiator the coolant is
cooler due to not circulating through the system
