Hmmmmmm, that seems to work oposite of how mine does. On mine the
tension seems to hold it in place. I wonder if the cupholder design
ever changed any?

Now if mine was only pushed in half way, it would do what you describe,
but not when fully closed.

OK guys here's the fix:
Put a coke in there and go over a real bumpy road and let it spill out
some onto the dash and cupholder. Wait a few days and it will be quite
sticky and will never pop out on it's own again. There.
